What Are You Giving up for Lent?

What are you giving up for Lent? When we hear this question, we register the “what” of Lent instead of the “why.” You see, the reason we forgo the things of this world is to open our hearts to the things beyond this world. When we say “no” to something inherently good, we have room to say “yes” to the Creator of good. When we sacrifice the earthly, we have more time for reaching the heavenly.

Join with our community at the Newman Center by replacing all of the good things we give up with two great things from God.

First, let’s commit to experiencing God’s mercy and love by making a sincere confession at least once during the 40 days. There’s confession on campus at the Newman Center, or you can go to a nearby parish.

Second, let’s choose daily this Lent to make the Word of God a part of our lives by reading the Bible every day (even if it’s just for 5 minutes) or joining a Lenten Bible study.

This Lent, let’s open our hearts to the grace that God delivers.
